Overview for Sumo Robot
Scenario: The entertainment around the world are always on the look out for ways to come up with new forms of entertainment one such way had been to use robots such as Sumo Wrestling which is fast becoming a very popular form of entertainment and yet at the same time it serves as a opportunity for companies to gain funding to improve robots abilities to be able to preform tasks that human being can do! In recent times we have seen in many futuristic films where the whole armed forces are made up of robots such as in Star Wars. A robotic company has approached you, requesting your assistance in creating a competitive robot for the World Sumo Wrestling Competition held in America each year!
Criterion A : Inquiring and analyzing
Strand 1. Explain and justify how Sumo Robots can help us to understand and develop robots in the future? (Before you try and answer this Strand, get in small groups 2 or 3 and go on Youtube.com and lightly research how robots effect our lives today already! Then go back to your Weebly Website and type up your own answer)
Once we design a robot we then want to start to upgrade it and while our technology develops and expands we can then start to expand it like the lazer and a small camera that can stick to the robot and a system that can have less wires that can affect the way the robot moves
Strand 2: Get in small groups and Create a Mind map full of ideas, for what you all think a Sumo Robot would need to be successful , remember to refer to this mind map when you are filling in your personal Sumo Robot Research Table for Strand 4 in criterion A:
Strand 3. Put together a Weebly slide show (from the side menu) and then add a text box and talk about how these images of Robots gave you ideas of how to create your own Sumo Robot!
Strand 4. Research Table on what makes the best Sumo Robot (please refer to your Mind map for research ideas)
Criterion B:Developing Ideas
How to Program a Sumo Robot
Programming a EV3 to IPad or android
Log into Youtube.com and review some Sumo Robot wrestling (take note on how they are built and how they successful they are at Wrestling!) Upload a couple of Youtube.com video below of your favorite Sumo Robots!
Strand 1. Suggest some design specifications from your research (from Criterion A) which you are thinking of including into your Sumo Robot Wrestler.
Develop a design specification which outlines the success criteria for the design of a solution based on the data collected
My design specifications will include the following from research carried in Criterion A Inquiry and Analyzing.
The kinds of programming that I can do with my Sumo Robot are:
+ I can programme it to go straight ..........
+ I can programme it to turn angles .......
+ I can stop and start the Sumo Robot ........
+ I can get it to read the difference between Black and White.....
The kinds of sensors that I have available to me to use in my Sumo Robot are:
+Colour sensors .........
+ Touch sensors ........
Ways to control the Sumo Robot:
+ Via booth tooth via phone .......
+ Pre-set programme ......
The ways of interacting with the person or thing that the Sumo Robot is saving:
+ I can have a clipper .......
+ I can have a pinchers and arms ........
Strand 2. Present a Three feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others
Design One: Sumo Robot Design
Design Two: Sumo Robot Design
Design Three: Sumo Robot Design
Strand 3. Present the chosen design from the three suggested design above and outline the reasons for its selection over the other two designs!
Strand 4. Develop accurate planning drawings/diagrams and outline requirements for the creation of the chosen solution
I chose the first design because it has everything at one it has the strength witch it can push the robot off the ring to win also, for additional strength it has twice the wheels thats twice the strength it has everything out of the way because the ropes are nice and tied on top. This design has the speed too.
Criterion C: Create
Strand 1. Construct a logical plan, which outlines the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create a Rescue Robot (create a your own You Tube Video or Table in Word breaking down how YOU will follow a series of steps to create a Sumo Robot for wrestling)
Steps of Making A EV3 Robot:
Step 1: I Will Start Building my robot (Putting Pieces together) Witch might take me 2-3 classes.
Step 2: I Will Finalize The building and start on the technology ( Wires&Engines) Witch will take me 1-2 classes.
Step 3: I Will be completely done my Ev3 Robot successfully and to program my robot using the "Lego Mind storms" Window on the computer by Plugging it into the USB slot.
Step 4: I Will Be Fully done and Ready to compete my robot against others and comparing them with others but by doing that I will Use the Lego Mind storms application On My Apple device controlling my bot.

Strand 2. Demonstrate excellent technical skills when making the Rescue Robot (This could be displayed in Strand 1 video or Table as well in class) (So no need to write anything here!)
Strand 3. Follow the plan to create the solution, which functions as intended explain changes made to the chosen design and the plan when making the Rescue Robot
Strand 4. Present the solution as a whole (Photo of the final Sumo Robot)
Criterion D: Evaluate
Strand 1. Construct a logical plan, which outlines the efficient use of time and resources, sufficient for peers to be able to follow to create a Rescue Robot (create a your own You Tube Video or Table in Word breaking down how YOU will follow a series of steps to create a Sumo Robot for wrestling)
Strand 2. Explain the success of the Sumo Robot against the design specification? (How did the sumo compare to the design specification in Criterion B)
My Sumo Robot was able to reach the design specification expectations and it could successfully achieve each and every specification .
Strand 3. Describe how the Sumo Robot could be improved ?
My Sumo Robot can be improved Speed wise. It wasn't the quickest in terms of pace and it didn't react fast. So if there was anything that i would change or Improve is Speed I could improve that in the programming.
Strand 4. Describe the impact (what happened?) of your Sumo Robot when used on the other Sumo Robots?
My Sumo robot turned out to be very strong against others witch didn't expect my robot to be that strong so I was the underdog. I used Key techniques against my opponents witch can make them loose in battles against me or even potentially
lead to damage or malfunction to their robot.
